Is Romance Really Necessary… or Just Nice to Have?

Do you really need romance in your relationship?

You may be convinced you’re “doing just fine (thank you)” without romance. And maybe you are. But is your relationship truly thriving, or simply functioning without it?

Over the past couple weeks, we’ve considered the major challenges couples face in keeping Romance Alive. For each obstacle, we’ve explored practical ideas for overcoming it.

But now here’s a bigger question I ask.

No two relationships are identical. What works beautifully in my relationship may not work in yours. And yours might not work for me. People are different. Relationships are different. And I enjoy observing how each couple expresses love differently.

However, and this is important, there are foundational characteristics about relationships that can impact it positively or negatively.

Would you agree:

  • Trust, enjoying each other’s company and mutual respect build a relationship?
  • Unfaithfulness, neglect, mistrust and dishonesty are destructive to a relationship?

Whether you’re an introvert, extrovert, touchy-feely, stoic, constantly traveling, or a homebody, these truths are foundational to relationships across the board.

Here’s a question I’ve been exploring: Is romance also necessary for a relationship to thrive for both people? I mean romance which is unique between the two of you, lets you know I’m still pursuing you, and reminds you why we fell in love.

I believe romance and Romantic Moments are more important than many realize.

How you romance your partner might differ from others. But when romance is missing, whether it slowly died or was never truly there, there are consequences to your relationship.

Over the next several Romantic Memos, I’d like to explore what happens when romance is missing from a relationship

You may agree with me or disagree. Either way, I invite you to join the conversation as we explore the impact to a relationship when romance is missing.

What are your thoughts?

We are appreciative of your romance suggestions. We especially like the one where you suggested that we kiss each other for 10 seconds. Keep going with romance.

The timely arrival of the product was appreciated. I followed the suggestions and my wife was surprised and excited. I am not a real romantic person. What I received was just what the doctor ordered. You will be hearing from me before long for something else.

Never before had I experienced such a meeting! In 2 hours we covered elements of romance overlooked by our fast paced life styles. I thought it may be a seminar on sex, but I was pleasantly surprised to observe that romance, thought it may lead to a sexual encounter, is NOT sex but has a deepening & enriching effect on the relationship. I think this seminar should be taught to our young people, college ag & married adults.
