As we mourn the passing of Dolly Parton, I wanted to remember and honor her by reposting this Romantic Memo from 2021.
“Romance? Robert, I don’t have time for Romance!” OR
“Romance? Robert, we’ve been together so long, we don’t need any more Romance!”
I’ve heard these excuses before. Maybe you’ve said them to yourself. So when I saw the heading about someone who’s been married to the same man since 1966 AND still thinks romance is important, I had to read the article.
Before you think these old farts just sit in rocking chairs all day, let me explode that idea. Seventy-five-year-old Dolly Parton is a highly successful and active entertainer, actress and businesswoman. And she still believes romance is important.
Dolly shared with the Entertainment Tonight TV show how she intentionally carves out time for date nights with her sweetheart:
- She’ll cook a favorite meal, pack it into a picnic basket, then they’ll find a riverbank and share time together.
- When the first daffodils appear, Carl brings her a bouquet, accompanied with a poem he’s written just for her.
- They’ll sneak off to a small, quiet little unpretentious motel and share a night.
None of these Romantic Moment ideas are expensive. But they are Interludes which are important to them, enhance their relationship, create shared memories.
Sounds like after all these years, keeping Romance Alive is still important to Carl and Dolly. And spending time together may be their preferred way to be romanced.
Your life is busy. But do you prioritize a date night like this busy couple? Unless you’re deliberately creating Romantic Moments for your sweetheart, you’re devaluing your relationship.
- Understand what is romantically attractively to your sweetheart.
- Look around at what “small” Moment you can fashion which meets your sweetheart’s preference. Then,
- Make time for the Romantic Moment.
What “small” Romantic Moment could you create this week for your sweetheart? Use one of Dolly’s ideas or create your own.
