In 2013, 2014, 2015, Anti Valentine’s Day protesters took to streets in Pakistan, saying the observation of the day was anathema to their cultures and societies and gathered to promote a “Modesty Day”. At the same location, students from a liberal group rallied in favor of the romantic holiday. Ultimately, the Islamabad High Court officially banned public celebrations of Valentine’s Day in 2017 and the Islamist orthodoxy has taken steps to obstruct celebrations.
