What If the Biggest Relationship Problem Is One You’d Never Say Out Loud?

Does your partner long for more romance, but you simply don’t feel like being romantic anymore?

That can be difficult to admit to yourself.

Others have similar thoughts and feelings. They still love their partner and aren’t looking to end things. Yet it seems the desire to create Romantic Moments for their partner has faded. And with it, emotional connection weakens.

This is final post in my series on the biggest obstacles and challenges couples face in keeping Romance Alive.

We’ve explored:

  1. My partner seems uninterested in romance.
  2. Busy lives crowding out romance.
  3. The Roommate Syndrome of familiarity.
  4. Running out of ideas for Romantic Moments

The fifth challenge: you no longer feel like romancing your partner.

Rather than ignoring it and undermining your relationship, become curious about it. Have a deep conversation with yourself and explore what’s going on.

Start by acknowledging you lack desire to romance your partner. And asking yourself, “Do I truly want a strong, intimate, well-connected relationship.

After confirming your desire for change, ask yourself these questions – in this order.

  1. When was the last time I intentionally romanced my partner?
  2. Is my hesitancy something recent? Or has it been growing over time?
  3. What happened that changed the way I feel?

These questions aren’t to assign blame. They’re about understanding what’s standing between you and romancing your partner.

Then one more question, “Will you push aside your reluctance and commit to either restarting or learning to romance your partner?”

Hopefully you’ll say yes.

Romance isn’t always driven by emotions. It begins and continues with a decision to understand each other’s needs and build from there.

Don’t pretend everything’s fine when it isn’t. It’s time to rediscover your relationship. When two people are committed to working together to breathe life back into their relationship, even faded romance can be rekindled. And Romance comes Alive.

We are appreciative of your romance suggestions. We especially like the one where you suggested that we kiss each other for 10 seconds. Keep going with romance.

The timely arrival of the product was appreciated. I followed the suggestions and my wife was surprised and excited. I am not a real romantic person. What I received was just what the doctor ordered. You will be hearing from me before long for something else.

Never before had I experienced such a meeting! In 2 hours we covered elements of romance overlooked by our fast paced life styles. I thought it may be a seminar on sex, but I was pleasantly surprised to observe that romance, thought it may lead to a sexual encounter, is NOT sex but has a deepening & enriching effect on the relationship. I think this seminar should be taught to our young people, college ag & married adults.
