Which cluttered room or area in your house you both keep saying, “someday…”?
Maybe “someday” could be a Romantic Moment.
Japanese consultant Marie Kondo created a system for decluttering spaces. Working through items in a specific order, you identify items which bring you joy when held. No joy. Thank it for its service to you.
Here’s the order
- Clothes
- Books
- Papers
- Miscellaneous items
- Sentimental items

Invite your partner to a KonMari decluttering party. Over hot tea, let your partner know you’d like to spend time together in this space. And it’s not just about getting rid of stuff. Explain KonMari.
As you pick things up, don’t rush. Share its history or sentimental value. For anything that no longer brings joy, profusely thank it for its service. Be specific, sincere – or ridiculous. Try to get the other to laugh.
You might clear some clutter. Uncover forgotten memories. Shed a tear. And if you don’t finish? That’s okay. Next time.
Romance isn’t always dinners and flowers. Sometimes connection hides in cluttered spaces.
