The Science Behind a Woman’s Touch — What It Does to a Man’s Heart

Does a woman’s touch impact her “man’s” biology?

Humans have strong needs for physical connection. It starts at birth. But as boys become teenagers, peer pressure regulates touching. As they mature more, society reinforces men are self-sufficient, rugged and don’t need to be touched.

Men’s need for touch doesn’t really disappear. And a woman’s touch impacts the biology of her “man.” And not just intimate touching.

Research shows:

• Sharing a 20-second hug reduces the man’s heart rate, blood pressure, and cortisol production (stress hormone) during stressful moments.

• Holding hands can reduce pain a man is feeling.

• A woman’s affectionate touch can reduce a man’s flight-or-flight response.

• Consistent affectionate touches can lower the man’s daily blood pressure and boost oxytocin levels (calming, feel-good hormone).

Men, your touch also impacts your “woman.” Nicole K. McNichols Ph.D. and her team discovered:
• Women who were touched by their romantic partners reported lower feelings of stress.
• His affectionate touching conveyed encouraging messages, improving the woman’s feelings about her own body.
• More frequent affectionate touching was associated with her being happier in their relationship

Personally, I crave touch. It’s my Romantic Preference Grouping. I experience “skin hunger.” When touched by an acquaintance, friend or partner, I feel connected to and accepted by society. Less isolated. When hugged, I sense a change in my physiology. And when touched with an extended embrace by my partner, I melt. Sense a sigh of satisfied connectedness.

Whether a man or woman, realize the importance and impact your touch has on your partner and your relationship. Hugs, cuddles, and kisses don’t just feel nice. They impact your partner more than 1,000 words you might say.

And if your partner’s Romantic Preference Grouping is touch, use your touch to romance him/her. It’ll deepen the impact of the Romantic Moment on your partner and your relationship.

Romance Alive has grown over the years and it has been cool to see. Thanks for staying the course on this important work.

Never before had I experienced such a meeting! In 2 hours we covered elements of romance overlooked by our fast paced life styles. I thought it may be a seminar on sex, but I was pleasantly surprised to observe that romance, thought it may lead to a sexual encounter, is NOT sex but has a deepening & enriching effect on the relationship. I think this seminar should be taught to our young people, college ag & married adults.
